First Ward Community Center has taken a lead role in community development initiatives and capacity building, and has been responsible for the financial administration for several faith-based and community based organizations implementing various academic and job readiness programs for low-income families.
L.A.C.E.R. is a city wide After-school and Summer Program creative and innovative opportunity for a collaborative body to work in service to a common goal: building on the existing after-school infrastructure to promote a citywide network of youth development programs that engage all school aged youth in a safe, enriching and learning environment.
We offer emergency assistance relief consisting of food and non-food items through our Basic Subsistence Component. Our Adult Soup Kitchen (adults) and Kids Cafe (youth) serves nutritionally balanced meals daily. We also offer food weekly mass food distribution. We provide information and referral services to Saginaw County and neighboring areas.
Join us this month as we celebrate Black History Month. We have several events going on including our Senior Citizen's Mardi Gras Luncheon on February 13th, our Children's Black History Program on February 20th and our 20th Annual Taste of Soul Luncheon on February 28th.
Our programs and services are responsive and accessible to families and individuals ranging from senior citizens to children (6yrs and older) regardless of race, gender, age, and/or socioeconomic status. First Ward Community Center gratefully receives funding through the efforts of the United Way of Saginaw County, and also relies on the generous contributions of community donors.
